Gyanvapi Case: A Journey Back in Time or Is it History Repeating Itself !!!
The history is written by the winners, it is said and if there are different winners at different points of time then there are different histories, and, then what is the history we are going to teach the kids in school, presently. Such, is the dilemma in which we find ourselves at this point of time.
Times are changing fast and so is the technology. What do any of the religious texts, one believes in have to say for that… The use of mobiles/ laptops/ printers for example - Is it ‘haram’ for muslims, or a part of idol worship for Hindus or a copy of Guru Granth Sahib for Sikhs, for that matter. One can think of numerous examples, and, I will leave it to the readers’ imagination to think of so called ‘paradoxes’.
The wearing of ‘hijab’ was dictated by the society at that time due to some social complexities. But, do all the muslims in all the countries of the world wear hijab; that is the larger question? The reason Hindus have 33 million Gods, is a case in the point. If one COULD NOT relate to an existing God in question, one could create a God in his/ her own likeness, one that a person could find perfection in and worship to make his/ her belief system stronger and/ or to become a better person. Other people were free to make their own choice…
One of the reasons muslims consider music as ‘haram’, is because it could induce a trance like state which may or may not have any relation to God (You have the dancing dervishes of Iran or Sufism as a moderate/ liberal version of the religion). Similarily, alchohol and drugs are forbidden for a devout muslim. God as a formless entity is very difficult to imagine and worship, for an emotional human being. So one has to worship Lord Shiva or Lord Krishna or Jesus Christ or Honored Kaaba, to feel the divinity within.
Talking about oneself, religion should be a personal affair as the one between husband and wife, child and mother, between brothers, sisters etc. etc. Do we take these relations to public and discuss with others? But, it is politically convenient to do so for the sake of votes?
That is why ‘education’ is important, so that one can decide what is more effective for a person- visit to temple, mosque, Gurudwara OR praying regularly OR meditation OR reading religious texts OR doing charity in the name of God and so on? Educated ones’ may not speak but may have a very strong belief system which may or may not be in line with mainstream thinking. But, do these people make their own decisions or stick with the more vociferous elements of the society? Is there some inherent fear that make these people do so? Or, is it the media which has to resort to ‘sensationalism’ to justify their business model!!!
